Torpedoboats
Austro-Hungarian "Kaiman" Class
 - 200tons Type -

Negotiations with Yarrow for the construction of a 390 t destroyer (Huszár) and a 200-t torpedoboat (Kaiman), with identical propulsion systems, were started in July 1904. Both should serve as models for destroyers and torpedoboats to be built domestically. Both were transferred to Austria-Hungary in July 1905. Stabilimento Tecnico Triestino was informed as early as February 1905, that it would be entrusted with the construction of thirteen units of this class. Ten units had to be built by Hungarian shipyards, according to the quota agreement. This was done by the new founded shipyard Danubius A.G. at Fiume/Bergudi.
The 24 boats were named as follows: Kaiman, Anaconda, Alligator, Krokodil, Wal, Seehund, Delphin, Narwal, Hai, Möve, Schwalbe, Pinguin, Drache, Greif, Triton, Hydra, Skorpion, Phönix, Krake, Polyp, Echse, Molch, Kormoran, and Alk.
The names were dropped for numbers on November 19, 1913. The boats received continuous numbers with an affixed designator letter following the German example which indicated the place of construction: E for England, T for Trieste, F for Fiume. The new classification numbers were Tb 50 E, Tb 51 T to Tb 63 T and Tb 64 F to Tb 73 F.
All of them saw operation during the war: convoy duties, mine-sweeping, and AA cover. The affixed letters were dropped for all torpedoboats on May 21, 1917. After the war four boats went to the South Slav State Navy, Tb 52 was thrown ashore due to a heavy Bora gale in the Bay of Sette Castelli (Kastelanski zaljev) and became a total loss. All others survived and were allocated to various navies.
