Gun Boats

| In about 1885 the A.-H. navy started to build up a so called jeune école fleet without expensive battleships. Instead of them a hierarchy of different torpedo carrying units was developed. The so called torpedo vessel should lead a torpedo boat flotilla into battle. The genuine design came from England, where the first such unit, the Panther, was built. Tiger was an improved version of this type. When the ship became obsolete in 1904 it was converted into an admiralty yacht and renamed Lacroma. Allocated in 1920 to GB and sold for scrap to Italy. |
