Japanese "Mogami" Class
- Heavy Cruisers -

The four ships of the Mogami class (Mogami, Suzuya, Mikuma and Kumano) were built under the conditions of the Washington Treaty. They were classified as class B cruiser (Light Cruiser). After their completion they were reconstructed and reclassified as class A cruiser (Heavy Cruiser).

Mogami, 31.Mar.26: launched as class B cruiser; until 1939: Reconstruction to class A cruiser; until 1943: Reconstruction, the Mogami was converted to a combines cruiser - seaplane tender;  Sunk after battle with US cruisers at Leyte Gulf on October 25th 1944.
Suzuya - Laid down at Navy Shipayard Yokosuka on Dec. 11th 1933. Commissioned on Oct. 31st 1937; until 1939: Conversation to a heavy cruiser ; Oct 25th 44: Severly damage after hits of bombs by USN planes at the Battle of Samar Island. Scuttled with torpedoes by an IJN destroyer.

Mikuma - Laid down at Mitsubishi Nagasaki on December 24th 1931. Commissioned on August 29th 1935. Sunk at Midway by US planes on June 5th/6th 1942.
Kumano - Laid down at Kawasaki Kobe on April 5th 1934. Commissioned on Oct. 31st 1937. Beached after being hit by 9 torpedoes; finally destroyed by US planes.
